Facts about Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy for you to break free from the Myths
What in reality Hypnosis is?
Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness in which the subconscious mind can be accessed. Unlike the “sleep” state in which you are oblivious or unaware of what is happening around you, in the hypnotic state the conscious mind is awake and aware of all that is going on, yet simultaneously providing access to the subconscious mind.Approved by the American and British Medical Associations, hypnosis is “scientifically researched and can even be seen on a brain scan,”
Can anyone “get stuck” in Hypnosis?
Hypnosis many a times, occurs naturally to us. For example, while engrossed in a book or a movie, when our external reality fades away, we are in a natural state of hypnosis. When we “daydream” with our eyes open or when we meditate, again we are in a natural state of hypnosis. No one ever gets “stuck” in hypnosis, as the minute you choose to come out of trance, you will.
Can Hypnosis harm in any way?
No. It’s perfectly safe to be in the hypnotic state. In fact, it is very calming and refreshing. Also hypnosis is not a “truth serum” and if you do not wish to share something in the hypnotic state, you won’t. In hypnosis, you are in control of all your faculties and can talk, laugh, analyse, share and communicate about the entire healing process and your feelings with the therapist.
Can everyone be Hypnotized?
Huge number of people get hypnotised the first time they go through the process. Some need more practice and more time. Roughly 15% of the world’s population cannot be hypnotised at all. However, this 15% can benefit from therapy through non-hypnotic inductions into the subconscious mind.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy used to create subconscious change in a patient in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviors or feelings. It is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis and with prior consent and as agreed with client.
Hypnotherapy is very effective with anxiety disorders, phobias, and traumas. Addictions like smoking and drinking and even kleptomania can also be cured effectively through hypnotherapy, though results may vary from person to person. Hypnotherapy can work very well for pain control as well. It could also be used for people who are grossly overweight to help them lose their appetite. It’s also an effective therapy for insomnia.
Whether hypnosis is required depends on the kind of problem, the extent of it and the type of client’s personality. Hypnotherapy can take anything from three sessions to 10 to be effective, particularly if it’s a deep addiction.
